We are looking for a Senior Associate to reinforce and extend our practice in IP, privacy, data protection and cyber security

The role is primarily focused on IP, privacy and data protection, with regular involvement in transactional contexts (e.g. M&A and venture capital). This includes advising our clients in the following matters:

  • soft IP law, mainly advising on copyright and trademark law;
  • reviewing IP-related contract such as IP licence contract and IP assignment contract;
  • complying with all requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR);
  • creating and implementing global compliance programs;
  • defining (international) data transfers’ strategy;
  • planning for and managing data breaches and cyber security incidents;
  • advising on data protection issues in the context of mergers, acquisitions, and other commercial transactions; and
  • negotiation of data processing agreements.

You will also advise companies on the upcoming new EU data regulations that are part of the EU's digital strategy and that will significantly impact technology companies in Europe, including the:

  • Data Act (DA);
  • Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act);
  • Data protection issues related to the Digital Market Act (DMA) and the Digital Service Act (DSA);
  • Network Information Security Directive 2 (NIS2);
  • Data Governance Act (DGA);
  • Data protection aspects of Payment Service Directive 2 (PSD2); and
  • E-Privacy Regulation.

In this role you will: 

  • manage matters with a high degree of autonomy, appropriate to your experience, in collaboration with the other members of the firm, including junior associates who will work under your supervision,
  • act as a direct contact for clients building trust through responsiveness and clarity,
  • translate legal frameworks into practical and forward-looking advice,
  • work in transaction-driven environment requiring communication, organisation and precision,
  • contribute to the firm’s visibility and business development efforts through involvement in the entrepreneurial ecosystem (incubators, events, workshops and production of legal content), and
  • contribute to internal knowledge development.

What we expect:

We are seeking a lawyer who combines technical strength and thoroughness with commercial judgment and strong client focus. 

You have:

  • a master’s degree in law from a Belgian university (additional postgraduate qualification is a plus);
  • an excellent academic background and very good analytical skills;
  • at least 6 years of experience in IP, privacy, data protection and cyber security in a reputable law firm; 
  • hands-on experience with venture capital and M&A transactions strongly preferred;
  • a problem-solving mindset and the ability to propose pragmatic legal solutions;
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team,
  • native Dutch or French speaker, with excellent command of English and a good command of the other national language;
  • an existing professional network and portable business is a plus.
