Function

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join their team in Vilvoorde, Belgium.

As Legal Counsel for Belgium, your primary goal will be to proactively identify and mitigate legal risks relating to real estate development projects, including infrastructure, power connection, and renewable energy initiatives, with a strong focus on energy and construction law.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing agreements and legal documents for data center and light industrial/logistics projects, including energy, power, grid connection, PV installations, PPAs, EV charging infrastructure, battery installations, waste heat use, and wind energy.
  • Staying updated on relevant laws, regulations, case law, and industry trends, and proactively advising the organization on potential legal risks and opportunities.
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, standards, and values, and training the Belgian team on legal and compliance matters.
  • Coordinating with and managing external law firms efficiently and at fair cost.
  • Handling legal disputes and litigation coordination.
  • Collaborating closely with other Legal Counsels in Continental Europe, as well as the Belgium/Netherlands business and the wider European team.

Profile

Do you have a Master’s degree in Law, are fully qualified in Belgium as a lawyer (attorney or in-house counsel), and have at least 6 years of proven experience as a Legal Counsel or in a similar role within a company or law firm? Other requirements:

  • You have an excellent knowledge of contract law and energy law, with a strong interest in a wide range of relevant regulatory developments.
  • You have strong analytical, communication and negotiation skills.
  • You can work independently and handle most complex legal matters without intensive advice.
  • You are able to manage multiple projects at the same time and collaborate effectively across different teams, taking deadlines into account.
  • You will act with high ethical standards and professionalism, and live Goodman's values of innovation, determination, integrity and sustainability in your daily work.
  • You have a perfect command of Dutch and English, both orally and in writing.
  • You can function well under time pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • You have experience in international projects.
  • You have an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Copilot).
