Law Square welcomes Yves De Cordt

Yves De Cordt, professor at UCL (Catholic University of Louvain), joined Law Square as Senior Counsel in the corporate practice, further strengthening an already well-established department of 18 lawyers. Yves currently teaches commercial law, corporate law and law of corporate structures at the Faculty of Law and Criminology, as well as the legal aspects of setting-up businesses at the Louvain School of Management.

As Senior Counsel, Yves will provide in-depth technical advice and expertise to the complex client files handled by the Law Square team, and give second opinions where relevant.

He will bring the firm’s attorney and client trainings to the next level. His solid expertise and vast knowledge will be extremely valuable in providing thought leadership and publishing articles together with Law Square’s team on developments in EU and Belgian law.

Yves holds a Law degree (1989), an LL.M. in Business Law (1990) and a degree as a Doctor of Law (Ph. D.) (2003) from the Catholic University of Louvain.

In the past, he worked as a lawyer in several law firms and held the position of assessor in the State Council legislative section from 2011 to 2016.

During 10 years, Yves was Chief Managing Editor of the law review “Revue pratique des sociétés”. He is now a member of the “RPS-TRV” editorial board since the merger of both publications. Yves also acts as Chief Managing Editor of the “Revue de droit international et de droit comparé", and is a member of the editorial board of the “European Company and Financial Law Review” and of the scientific committee of the “Revue de droit commercial belge”.

Yves is also co-chairman of the Academic Council of Guberna, a founding member of the Belgian Centre of Corporate Law, a member of the Scientific Council of Cepani and president of a selection board for the IBR-IRE.

Yves is the author and co-author of numerous publications, including « Précis de droit des sociétés », « Manuel du droit de l’entreprise », « Répertoire pratique de droit belge – Société anonyme », « Modernisation et simplification du droit des sociétés dans les États membres de l’UE », « Le rôle du réviseur d’entreprises à l’égard du conseil d’entreprise », « Le statut du dirigeant d'entreprise », « L'intérêt social comme vecteur de la responsabilité sociétale », « La transparence en droit des sociétés et en droit financier » and « L’égalité entre actionnaires ».

Managing Partner Karin Winters commented: “I am very honoured and happy to welcome Yves on board. Yves’ name and reputation precede him and he adds great value to our team and strengths. The fact that Law Square, within 3 years from its start, can attract Yves, a high-calibre senior academic, confirms that our firm is not only growing rapidly and successfully but that it is also focusing on delivering high value and high quality to our clients, which is what matters most.
