Osborne Clarke Belgium is looking for an Innovation Lawyer to sit at the intersection of law, technology, and change management.
This is a role for a lawyer or legal professional who wants to do something different, redefine how the law is practised, sitting at the intersection of legal practice and the responsible, impactful application of generative AI and Legal Tech solutions. You will work with real autonomy, supported by a collaborative international network of innovation professionals.
You will report to the Legal Tech Partner and the COO and work closely with the AI Business Partner and colleagues in our OC Solutions team, a team of multidisciplinary professionals working directly alongside lawyers to improve how we deliver existing legal services, and collaborating to identify and build new AI-enabled products and services to take to market.
The role is based in our Brussels office, with a hybrid working model (3 days per week in the office).
- Work alongside lawyers across practice groups to translate their needs into scalable, technology-enabled solutions using our Legal Tech stack.
- Co‑design and build AI‑enabled client solutions and internal work processes (for example: contract review workflows, playbooks, self‑service tools, collaboration‑platform workspaces) that are grounded in sound legal analysis.
- Produce documentation, workflow templates, and playbooks that legal team members can use
- Pilot, assess, and lead the onboarding of new legal technology tools, managing rollout, adoption, and ROI measurement, in collaboration with OC Solutions.
- Manage vendor relationships and develop client-facing solutions via collaboration platforms.
- Act as the primary conduit between OC Solutions and the Belgian office, ensuring that firm-wide innovation initiatives are effectively adapted and implemented locally, and that local insights and requirements are fed back to the international network.
- Stay ahead of developments in legal AI - monitoring emerging tools and identifying meaningful experimentation opportunities.
- Collaborate with AI experts across the firm and actively participate in the AI Ambassador Network and champion the adoption of generative AI tools and new ways of working.
- Design and deliver structured training programmes on legal technology and generative AI.
- Provide tailored, hands-on support to individual lawyers on tools, workflows, and practical questions.
- Drive adoption and culture change, helping colleagues navigate new ways of working.
- Report on Legal Tech achievements and ROI to the Executive Committee.
- Communicate proactively with legal teams and staff on innovation and efficiency.
-
Belgian law degree with 2–5 years of experience in a relevant practice area; Experience in technology, commercial, IP, data protection, regulatory or corporate work is particularly relevant, but we are open to other backgrounds if you can demonstrate a strong interest in AI and Legal Tech.
-
Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; good knowledge of either French or Dutch; additional languages are an asset.
-
Demonstrable experience with Legal AI tools (Legora, Harvey, CoCounsel), AI platforms in a law firm, in-house, or at a Legal Tech company.
- You bring a genuine curiosity about AI and Legal Tech but as something you are constantly using and testing this every day.
- You quickly understand what lawyers need and can translate that into practical, workable solutions.
- You are comfortable being a “doer”: not only advising on tools, but also configuring, testing and iterating concrete legal workflows and client‑facing solutions.
- You are a confident communicator, equally at ease presenting to high-level stakeholders and helping an associate build a complex and scalable workflow.
- You have experience in project and change management, including in relation to use of AI.
-
Strong problem-solving abilities and comfort with varied, non-standardised scenarios.
-
Highly organised, analytical, and capable of prioritizing multiple projects.
- You bring legal judgement, an understanding of risk, and client insight that are essential to designing and delivering responsible AI‑enabled legal solutions.
-
Proficiency with AI tooling stack: n8n, Python, Claude API is a plus.
In this role
- A pivotal position in shaping how we use AI and Legal Tech in Belgium.
-
Autonomy to experiment, pilot and roll out new tools, backed by a strong international innovation network.
-
International exposure through cross-border projects and collaboration with innovation teams in other offices.
-
Continuous learning opportunities (AI, Legal Tech, project management, innovation) and room to grow your profile as an expert.
- A realistic approach to work‑life balance with clear progression opportunities.
As a firm
- A genuinely open, approachable and straightforward culture, repeatedly highlighted by our clients.
- A focus on innovative sectors such as TMT, Life Sciences and Energy, working with market leaders and fast‑growth companies.
- A non‑stuffy, inclusive environment where new ideas are encouraged and where you can help redefine how legal services are delivered.
