We are pleased to announce that Anne Bonet, former first President of the Interfederal Screening Commission (ISC), the central body of the Belgian foreign direct investment control mechanism that came into force in 2023, will be joining Liedekerke’s FDI practice as Of Counsel on 1 April.
With over 25 years of professional experience, Anne Bonet has recognised expertise in economic policy, regulation and foreign investment screening.
As the first President of the ISC, Anne Bonet played a decisive role in the implementation and operational application of the Belgian screening mechanism, at the crossroads of legal, economic and geopolitical issues. Her experience at the ISC gives her an in-depth understanding of the expectations of the screening authorities, inter-federal institutional dynamics and the strategic sensitivities related to the protection of critical sectors.
Anne Bonet's arrival comes at a time of intensified scrutiny of foreign investments in Belgium and within the European Union. Her expertise will significantly strengthen our ability to assist investors in structuring, notifying and securing their transactions subject to FDI screening regimes.
Anne Bonet will bring complementary expertise to our work, integrating the geopolitical, geoeconomic and institutional considerations that underpin the authorities' analysis. She will also continue her research activities in order to remain closely aligned with developments in the regulatory framework and operational realities on the ground, for the direct benefit of our clients.
“Anne's arrival further strengthens our leading position on the Belgian FDI market and will enhance our ability to handle the most complex FDI cases in a constantly changing geopolitical and geoeconomic environment, offering unrivalled expertise to our valued clients,”
said Vincent Mussche, head of the FDI team at Liedekerke.
“I am delighted to be joining the Liedekerke FDI team and to contribute to the development of thefirm's FDI practice at a time when foreign investment issues are more strategic than ever,”
adds Anne Bonet.
Etienne Kairis, Co-Managing Partner at Liedekerke, concludes that
“Anne’s unique institutional experience and geopolitical vision will also enable us to work even more closely with our defence, energy, and infrastructure teams, ensuring a fully coordinated approach for our clients.”
With this arrival, Liedekerke confirms its position as a leading player in foreign direct investment and
strategic investment regulation in Belgium.
