The Group Legal function supports the Ageas Corporate Centre and the Group’s entities on a broad range of legal matters, including corporate law, litigation, regulatory and listed-entity matters, ESG, reinsurance, contract law and transversal legal topics. It acts as a centre of legal expertise and governance for the Group.

As part of an evolution of the legal organisation, Ageas is strengthening its leadership by consolidating legal content, team leadership and legal operations under a single role: Head of Corporate Legal.

Function

Your main responsibilities are:

  • Strategic leadership of the Corporate legal team of 8 people at Corporate Centre, including coordination of legal activities, prioritisation and allocation of work, and coaching / development of the team;
  • Oversight of legal advice provided to the Corporate Centre on corporate, contractual, litigation, regulatory, ESG and listed-entity matters;
  • Identification, assessment and mitigation of legal risks impacting Ageas SA/NV and other Group-level activities;
  • Coordination and follow-up of international litigation and arbitration matters, together with external counsel and senior management;
  • End-to-end responsibility for legal operations across Ageas SA/NV, including process optimisation, legal technology, vendor management, knowledge management and legal reporting at Group level;
  • Development and execution of a Legal Tech and operational excellence roadmap for the legal function at Ageas SA/NV, in collaboration with IT and key stakeholders;
  • Contribution to Group-wide legal initiatives, governance forums and cross-functional projects, including reporting on legal risks and performance indicators.

Profile

  • Master’s degree in Law from a Belgian university;
  • Extensive professional experience (12+ years) in an in-house legal role within a complex international organisation and/or a reputable law firm;
  • Solid expertise in corporate and contract law, with strong understanding of listed-company obligations;
  • Proven experience in leading & coaching legal teams & experts;
  • A personal interest in driving legal operations and/or transformation initiatives;
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to operate at senior management level;
  • Structured, pragmatic and business-oriented mindset combined with legal excellence;
  • Fluency in English and strong working knowledge of French and Dutch.
