Compliance Officer

Permanent role, Part Time 20 hours/week

Required as soon as possible

Job Purpose:

To ensure the School complies with Data Protection rules, coordinates proper staff training, and oversees responsible use of Artificial Intelligence technologies in line with ethical, and regulatory training.

Main Responsibilities:

The Compliance Officer will:

  • Foster a culture of data protection and ethical AI use within the School
  • Develop the School's data protection and AI governance strategy
  • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of the data privacy, protection, and AI governance strategy
  • Coordinate the creation, roll-out and updates of policies, guidelines, and staff training on data protection and responsible AI use
  • Coordinate data protection and AI governance efforts across all sections of the School
  • Identify and escalate risks related to data privacy, protection, and AI deployment
  • Be the main contact for staff, in particular the Digital Coordinators and IT, the Law firm, the Data Protection Officer, regulatory authorities, and data subjects in the areas of Data Protection and AI governance

Tasks will include:

  • Implement essential elements of the data protection (e.g. principles of data processing, data subjects' rights, data retention, data protection impact assessments, data breaches management), usually in coordination with the IT department and relays in the School.
  • Maintain the data mapping (Record of processing activities) up-to-date
  • Lead the process to validate apps, software and AI tools authorised for use in the School
  • Lead the response to potential data protection or AI-related incidents, to mitigate risk, determine reporting requirements, and develop corrective action plans when needed

What we are looking for: 

  • Understanding of crossover between legal, IT, data security, and AI governance requirements
  • Awareness of data processing operations, including business applications, data use, and AI systems
  • Experience communicating effectively across technical and non-technical audiences
  • High ethical standards and sound judgement
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
