Why the SNCB is changing its general conditions of carriage: force majeure in the rail and aviation sectors

The SNCB has announced today that they will change their general conditions of carriage so as to provide that passengers will receive compensation in case of delay even is such delay has been caused by an event of force majeure.

This change in the general conditions of carriage is the consequence of a recent decision of the European Court of Justice in the ÖBB-Personenverkehr case.

The EU freezes airline emission legislation

On 12 November, the EU Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard, relayed a new Commission proposal, backed by the Member States, to "stop the clock" on enforcing international aspects of aviation EU emissions trading.

The suspension of the EU trading emission scheme will operate only on flights from and to the European Union. Intra-European flights will have to comply with current legislation.
