Stibbe launches Luxembourg tax practice with the hire of Ayzo van Eysinga

International tax specialist Ayzo van Eysinga joins the Luxembourg office of Stibbe as head of tax. He was previously a Luxembourg tax partner at Loyens & Loeff.

In addition to being one of the major European financial centres, Luxembourg is a key jurisdiction in international tax planning. As a next step in the development of its Luxembourg office which was opened six months ago, Stibbe has appointed Ayzo van Eysinga to develop and lead its Luxembourg tax team. This development is part of Stibbe's strategy to become one of the key players in the Luxembourg market.

Ayzo's practice at Stibbe will focus on tax advisory assignments, particularly advising multinational groups and private equity houses on predominantly Luxembourg corporate tax and dividend tax and tax treaty application as well as project financing, structured finance, securitisations, fund taxation (SICAR, SIF) and corporate reorganisations and acquisitions.

Commenting on his move, Ayzo said, "I am excited by my new role and look forward to forming and leading a solid tax team at Stibbe Luxembourg. I was especially impressed by Stibbe's plans for growth, and investment in the future, and particularly in Luxembourg where I can use my specialist skills to good effect."

Speaking about the new appointment Dirk Leermakers, partner in charge of Stibbe Luxembourg, said, "We are fortunate to have secured someone of Ayzo's expertise. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in this field that will be of real benefit to our clients."

Ayzo is a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) and the Dutch Association of Tax Advisers, and is soon to be lecturing on tax matters at the University of Luxembourg. Ayzo has been active as a tax specialist since 1999. He has worked for several years in New York and Amsterdam before practising Luxembourg tax law.

In 2010, Stibbe and its alliance firms Herbert Smith and Gleiss Lutz received the European Tax Firm of the Year Award from International Tax Review.

The core focus of Stibbe's Luxembourg office is corporate, investment funds, tax, real estate, banking and finance work.
