Jones Day welcomes antitrust partner Philipp Werner to Brussels Office

The global law firm Jones Day is pleased to announce the arrival of Philipp Werner in its Brussels Office on May 1, 2015 as a partner in the Antitrust & Competition Law Practice. Mr. Werner was previously a partner at McDermott Will & Emery in Brussels.

Mr. Werner has considerable experience advising on EU and German competition law matters and merger control, as well as in litigation before EU and national courts. He also has a particular focus on State aid procedures. He has represented leading private companies and public sector entities, including in the network industries (e.g. transportation, communications, and postal services) and the technology, manufacturing, chemical, and healthcare sectors.

"I am delighted to join the Jones Day antitrust team, which is well-known both for the tremendous legal talent of its lawyers and its exceptional worldwide presence," said Mr. Werner. "In Brussels, Bernard Amory, Thomas Jestaedt, Alexandre Verheyden, and the entire team have a strong reputation in the EU law community."

"Philipp is an outstanding addition to our global team," said David Wales, partner and leader of Jones Day's global Antitrust & Competition Law Practice. "He has the talent and character that we are looking for in our younger partners. Philipp will further strengthen our already impressive team of German competition lawyers, led by Carsten Gromotke, Thomas Jestaedt, and Johannes Zoettl. Most recently, the German team expanded with the arrival of Johannes Willheim in our Frankfurt Office, who brings valuable Austrian competition law capability."

"We warmly welcome Philipp, and we are very pleased to continue to attract excellent practitioners to our Brussels team," said Bernard Amory, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's Brussels Office. "Philipp will reinforce our ability to respond to the opportunities and demands of the expansive German market. He will play an integral role in assisting our clients on Germany-related cases handled by the European Commission and national authorities."

Mr. Werner is recognized by Chambers, JUVE (the top German legal directory), and Who's Who Legal, and was selected as one of the "40 under 40" by the Global Competition Review in 2012. He is a German qualified Rechtsanwalt and a graduate of the University of Bonn (Germany). He also holds an LLM from the University of Cambridge (U.K.) and a Diploma in Economics for Competition Law from King's College London. Mr. Werner is a member of the Berlin and Brussels bars.
