As from 1 December 2010, Alexander De Becker becomes Of Counsel at Lydian and joins the Real Estate, Environment & Regulatory department where he will be active in the field of public employment law.
Alexander obtained his law degree at the Law Faculty of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 2000 and obtained a doctorate at the same university for his Ph.D.-thesis "The State and its staff: foundations of a specific legal status for public officials" (Bruges, die Keure, 2007, 672 p. (original version in Dutch)).
Alexander De Becker currently teaches Public Employment Law and Local Governance at the Law Faculty of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He also holds the Ien Dales chair at the Law Faculty of the University of Amsterdam for the course "The State as Employer".
Alexander has a very broad knowledge of public employment law that spans throughout the EU. He held a position as guest professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the University of Kopenhagen (Denmark), the University of Stockholm (Sweden), the University of Reading (UK) and the University of Oxford (UK).
Alexander also has a very large consultancy experience. He mainly advises public bodies, public companies and other public entities in the field of public employment law.
As one of the few real specialists in public employment law, Alexander is frequently invited to speak at seminars and conferences in Belgium and abroad. He has also widely published on the subject.
Alexander is a member of the Belgian Society for Labour Law and Social Security Law (BEGASOZ). He is also member of the editorial staff of the "Tijdschrift voor Sociaal Recht" (Magazine for HRM Public Law) as well as the editorial staff of the "Administratieve Rechtsbibliotheek" (Administrative Law library).
