BIPT Council faces the Federal Parliament

The BIPT Council – MMs Hamande, Cuvellier, Desmedt and Vanfleteren – yesterday faced a federal parliamentary hearing. At the hearing, the BIPT Council mapped out the current and future situation of the postal and telecom sectors. The BIPT Council’s president, Jack Hamande, took this opportunity to highlight the very high level of the Belgian network quality, “quasi unequalled” in Europe.

During the session, the BIPT Council presented the annual 2014 report, whose main strategic axis were: innovation, competition and investments, reliability, information, involvement, dialogue and good performance. The following topics were also addressed at the hearing:

  • the renewal of the Council’s membership at the request of the Minister Alexander De Croo;
  • the Voyacom matter (a Chinese operator who had been granted a license but had not yet deployed any network);
  • the liberalisation of the postal sector; and also
  • the Easy Switch Royal Decree aimed at facilitating the switch of fixed operators by consumers.

The operators will have until 1st of March to adopt the most efficient proceedings, before the launch of the legislative process.
