Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that three attorneys from its Brussels, Madrid and Tokyo offices were elected to the firm's partnership, effective April 1, 2009. The three attorneys were previously counsel with the firm.

Brussels – Eric Barbier de La Serre

Eric Barbier de La Serre is a member of the Litigation Department. His practice focuses on European and French competition law with a particular emphasis on antitrust litigation, State aid and merger control. His main areas of expertise are in the IT, telecommunications, media, financial services and energy sectors. He also regularly advises on other aspects of EC law, such as free movement of goods and services. He was formerly the Head of the Cabinet (Chef de Cabinet) of the then-President of the Court of First Instance of the European Communities in Luxembourg. In this role, Barbier de La Serre supervised the cabinet and assisted the President on a wide range of cases, with a strong focus in the areas of competition and State aid. Barbier de La Serre graduated from the Hautes Études Commerciales business school in 1994 and the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris in 1996.  He also received a master of law from Paris XI University Law School in 1997 and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 2000. He is a member of the Paris, Brussels and New York bars.

Madrid – Juan Manuel de Remedios

Juan Manuel de Remedios is a member of the Corporate Department. His practice focuses on general corporate law, in particular cross-border public mergers and acquisitions and capital markets, with particular expertise in the energy, telecom and automotive sectors. In recent years he has advised on some of the largest M&A transactions conducted by Spanish acquirers such as Iberdrola's €17.2 billion acquisition of Scottish Power and $6 billion acquisition of Energy East. Additionally, de Remedios has represented KKR and The Carlyle Group on Spanish acquisitions. His capital markets experience includes the representation of Autostrade SpA in the €10,000,000,000 Global Medium Term Programme and the IPO of Iberdrola Renovables, one of the world's largest IPOs in 2007, among others. Juan Manuel de Remedios received a J.D. from Universidad Complutense in 1988 and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 1994. He is admitted to practice in Spain and New York.

Tokyo – Daiske Yoshida

Daiske Yoshida is a member of the Litigation Department. His practice focuses on international dispute resolution, with significant experience advising clients with respect to arbitrations and arbitration agreements, as well as cross-border antitrust and intellectual property disputes. Yoshida is fluent in Japanese and has advised Japan-based clients in many industries, ranging from biotechnology and optoelectronics to fashion and entertainment. In addition, he has represented Japanese and non-Japanese clients in numerous international and US arbitrations, including an UNCITRAL arbitration involving a power purchase agreement; an ICC arbitration involving a shareholders agreement in a Chinese power production company; an AAA arbitration between a US fashion designer and its Japanese distributor; and various other commercial and insurance matters. He has also negotiated numerous international patent, trademark and know-how licenses. Yoshida writes and speaks frequently on arbitration, antitrust and intellectual property law. He received his law degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1998, an M.A. from Columbia University in 1992 and a B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1991. He is qualified to practice before the New York bar and in Japan as Gaikokuho-Jimu-Bengoshi (registered foreign lawyer).
