The company is active in the healthcare sector in Brussels.

As Senior Legal Counsel EMEA you will be responsible for the following tasks, under minimal supervision:

  • Negotiating, writing, reviewing, summarizing, researching and delivering a wide variety of agreements for law department clients, including distributor agreements, service agreements, sponsoring agreements, confidentiality agreements, and other general business contracts;
     
  • Providing legal, compliance and ethics advice;
     
  • Assisting with the administration of the Company's commercial compliance program in EMEA;
  • Manage all aspects of contracts arising in the affected regions:

    • Send templates, adapt templates, manage signatures and file the signed contracts according to the specific rules set out by the Company Contract Management Policy;
    • Manage contracts review, draft, negotiation and approval;
       
  • Implement and maintain document management system (both on paper and electronically);
     
  • Offer counsel on a wide variety of legal issues, and advise Company's executives and employees (commercial and functional departments) in EMEA;
     
  • Manage projects and deadlines;
     
  • Advise on contract status, legal risks and business terms of various Company arrangements and business relationships;
     
  • Explain legal language and develop solutions to legal questions;
     
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect the Company and its affiliates in the affected region;
     
  • Support development and implementation of the Company's Commercial Compliance Program and provide legal, compliance and ethics advice accordingly;
     
  • Taking the lead on providing advice on compliance and ethics issues;
     
  • Review advertising and marketing materials to ensure compliance with legal and compliance requirements (CMCP);

  • Develop solutions to complex legal questions and liaise with external counsels when necessary;
     
  • Provide training to affiliates in EMEA on substantive legal and compliance topics;
     
  • Perform or assist in the performance of compliance and auditing activities in EMEA;
     
  • Other duties as assigned which are reasonably within or extensions of the scope of the above listed duties or those included in the Law Department Balanced Scorecard and/or Strategy Map.

The requested qualifications for this Senior Legal Counsel EMEA position include:

  • European Master's degree in Law;
     
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in a law firm, or in the healthcare, medical device or pharmaceutical industries;
     
  • Experience with contract management, EU legislation, and commercial compliance issues, including anti-bribery legislation and industry codes of conduct such as the MedTech Europe or Mecomed Code;
     
  • Excellent knowledge of English (both verbal and written), knowledge of any other language would be an asset (German, Swedish, Arabic, etc);
     
  • Expert legal research skills, document drafting and negotiation skills;
     
  • Ability to interact effectively with associates at all levels in all businesses and apply skills of influence and persuasion, and demonstrated ability to quickly establish trust and rapport with other personnel;
     
  • Discretion & high level of confidentiality, ability to listen carefully, question and process/consider input effectively when evaluating legal and compliance issues;
     
  • Skilled at working independently while coordinating with other attorneys, paralegals and administrative staff;
     
  • Understands business implications of decisions and knowledge of market and competition;
     
  • Efficient at handling multiple projects;
     
  • Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal and time management skills;
     
  • Strong presentation skills to facilitate the effective delivery of training;
     
  • Knowledge of Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Database, and Internet software.
