Job Summary:

This position will work as a member of the Global Legal Privacy team to deliver legal advice on data protection and privacy laws throughout the EMEA region, with special emphasis on financial privacy law. As legal counsel, this position will also partner closely with the European legal team on bank secrecy issues affecting the banking operations of PayPal S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A (“PayPal Europe) and will provide legal counsel to, and work in close partnership with, PayPal’s Data Protection Officer and PayPal’s Global Privacy Program Office.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex projects of diverse scope, driving legal initiatives that support business growth and innovation.
  • Participate in complex problem resolution, providing expert legal advice on high-stakes issues and disputes.
  • Provide expert legal advice and support, particularly in areas experiencing significant growth such as compliance, data privacy, and litigation support.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, advising on the implementation of new legal technologies and automation tools.
  • Manage legal risks and safeguard PayPal's legal interests, developing comprehensive risk management frameworks.
  • Represent PayPal in litigation and other legal proceedings, leading case strategies and ensuring effective representation.

Expected Qualifications:

  • 8+ years relevant experience and a Juris doctorate degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Provide specialized legal advice and support, particularly in high-demand areas such as data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance. 
  • Identify issues and recommend best practices, leveraging industry knowledge and legal expertise to guide decision-making. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, implementing robust compliance programs and conducting regular audits. 
  • Manage legal risks and safeguard PayPal's legal interests, developing strategies to address emerging legal challenges. 
  • Represent PayPal in litigation and other legal proceedings, collaborating with external counsel and managing case strategies. 

Expected Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience and a Juris doctorate or equivalent degree
