Description of the vacancy

You’ll join a Data Privacy team of 3 experts. You'll work with an internal Data Privacy networks. You’ll collaborate with IT, cybersecurity and other relevant teams to ensure that appropriate technical and organizational measures are in place to safeguard data privacy and security.

UCB expects you to demonstrate a strong, dynamic leadership and advocacy for data privacy across all areas of the organization, including the legal team, senior leadership, the data privacy networks and project managers.

  • As the Senior Counsel for Data Privacy, you will support the design and oversee the implementation of a Global Data Privacy strategy at UCB.
  • You will be accountable for delivering legal guidance to the business to ensure that data privacy practices, including third party contracts accord with existing privacy laws and regulations globally.
  • You will also develop internal privacy policies and leading or collaborating in investigations, audits, and review to ensure that third-party and vendor practices accord with legal requirement. You will be the global DPO of the organization (as defined by GDPR) and also assist with incident escalations and investigations.
  • You will develop and implement global data privacy policies and procedures.
  • You will advocate for data privacy across all areas of the organization.
  • You will support the design of UCB's Data Privacy strategy informed by various legislation and governing bodies’ guidance, including separate data strategies for higher risk populations.
  • You will lead negotiations of privacy provisions in contracts in which the organization is providing data to third parties (g., reviewing privacy practices of vendors and negotiating appropriate contractual guarantees) and related warranties, guarantees, or indemnification.
  • Managing the cross-border transfer of information between jurisdictions with different privacy standards.
  • Monitor and assess changes in data privacy laws and regulations and develop related plans to ensure ongoing compliance with new and updated requirements.
  • Provide advice and guidance on privacy-related issues, including data incidents and breaches.

Profile

  • Master’s degree in law is mandatory.
  • 7+ years' experience with at least 3+ years of experience in data privacy related activities.
  • Operational expertise in data protection.
  • Relevant certification such as CIPP/E, CIPM is required.
  • Experience as a DPO or close collaboration with a DPO.
  • Risk management experience and negotiation skills, including escalations to senior management.
  • Policy development and implementation skills.
  • In-house experience in the healthcare sector (medical device, medical software or pharma) is a must.
  • Practical Mindset, professional presence, ability to communicate to all levels of the organization.
  • Fluent in English and French or Dutch.
