EUROPEAN DATA PROTECTION OFFICE (EDPO) is a fast-growing company that acts as Data Protection Representative in several jurisdictions (EU/UK/Switzerland) for companies located outside of these jurisdictions that have to comply with data protection regulations. We are a B2B business focused on providing top-notch, niche data protection services to clients all over the world. Appointing a Representative is a mandatory legal obligation for many companies that fall under the scope of these data protection laws (EU GDPR, UK GDPR, etc). Our services include, amongst others, acting as a point of contact for data subjects and for data protection authorities, supporting our clients in case of data breaches, delivering a blockchain-based Compliance Certificate and storing our clients Records of Processing Activities on a highly secure third-party platform.

Our headquarters are located in Brussels and London and we have representation offices throughout Europe. We are really passionate about client service, and we go above and beyond to ensure that we meet our clients’ needs. We love to spread awareness and share knowledge about data protection regulations. Our Brussels’ headquarter has an opening for a legal manager with 0 to 3 years of post-qualification experience, with a strong interest in data protection. You’ll work in a dynamic company that provides niche data protection services to companies. This opportunity will give you an excellent view on how the GDPR is implemented by businesses all over the world. You’ll also get a unique international experience while gaining first-hand entrepreneurial skills and staying on top of the latest data protection news.

Your mission in a nutshell:

  • manage client accounts
  • assist in the handling of requests from data subjects and data protection authorities
  • assist in the drafting and negotiation of contracts
  • assist in the filing of data breach notifications (across the 47 EU/EEA/UK data protection authorities)
  • actively participate in business development and marketing activities (with direct client contact)
  • actively participate in the monitoring of data protection laws and case law
  • support the company on our own GDPR compliance
  • attend international privacy-related conferences in Belgium and abroad
  • assist in the development and implementation of new service
  • contribute to the digitalization of our processes
  • assist in hosting webinars and events on GDPR-related topics
  • assist in the growth of our UK and Swiss Representation companies
  • liaise with our other EU offices
  • take part in a lot of various, fun and intellectually challenging tasks

Searched profile

  • University degree with a legal aspect/interest
  • 0-3 years of post-qualification experience
  • A strong interest in data protection, privacy matters and EU/UK GDPR 
  • EU/EEA citizenship or work permit valid in Belgium 
  • Complete fluency in English, written and spoken
  • Working knowledge of other European languages preferred
  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset
  • Solid business development skills
  • Resourceful personality, hands-on mentality
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure with a high degree of rigor
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
