Van Bael & Bellis promotes Johan Van Acker

Van Bael & Bellis is pleased to announce the election of competition law specialist Johan Van Acker to the partnership.

Johan joined Van Bael & Bellis in 2003. He specialises in all areas of European and Belgian competition law (including cartels, abuse of dominant market position and state aid), with a particular focus on merger control. Johan has been involved in a number of the firm's most significant merger cases over the past ten years, including the opposition to BHP Billiton's tie-up with Rio Tinto and Microsoft's acquistion of Skype. For both deals, the Van Bael & Bellis team received merger control matter of the year awards from Global Competition Review.

Johan commented on his promotion: "I am delighted to be joining the Van Bael & Bellis partnership. Our competition practice brings together a team of talented lawyers and excellent colleagues. It has been a pleasure to work with them for the past 10 years, and I look forward to contributing to our practice in my new role as partner in the years to come."

Johan's promotion brings the number of competition law partners at Van Bael & Bellis to eleven, and underpins the continued growth of the firm's competition practice.

Jean-François Bellis, Managing Partner: "We are very pleased to welcome Johan to the partnership. The firm has a thriving competition practice and we are happy to welcome Johan on board to further develop this practice, both locally and internationally."
