Hogan Lovells appoints Renato Antonini as Brussels Office Managing Partner

Global law firm Hogan Lovells has appointed partner Renato Antonini as Office Managing Partner for its Brussels office, effective 1 May 2026, succeeding Christopher Thomas. The appointment underscores the firm’s commitment to developing its presence in Benelux.

“Chris has been an excellent steward of the Brussels office and we are grateful for his leadership and all he has done for our people and clients there,” said José María Balañá, Regional Managing Partner – EMEA. “Renato brings to the role his management experience and the leadership instinct to grow our Brussels office.”

Antonini has advised clients for over 25 years on international trade matters, in particular in EU trade remedies, sanctions and trade controls, customs, and WTO law. He has a strong track record before the EU Courts and the European Commission. He advises companies across a broad range of sectors including steel, chemicals, energy, and financial services, as well as sovereign states.

He joined Hogan Lovells in September 2025 alongside partners Eva Monard and Byron Maniatis, strengthening what is now one of the leading EU trade practices in Brussels.

“It is a privilege to take on this role at such an important moment for the office and the firm,” said Antonini. “We have the foundations here for something truly excellent – a talented, collaborative team and a firm that is growing with purpose and ambition. My focus will be on continuing to build on that: attracting outstanding people and developing new capabilities for our clients.”

The appointment comes as Hogan Lovells prepares for its landmark merger with Cadwalader, approved by partner vote this month and set to combine on 1 July. The merger – the largest in law firm history – will create a global platform with approximately 3,100 lawyers bringing together Hogan Lovells’ strengths in highly regulated sectors with Cadwalader’s market-leading finance and capital markets capabilities.

Hogan Lovells’ Brussels office advises on EU regulatory and policy matters, international trade, competition, and banking and finance, working alongside the firm’s global practices.
