Edward Taelman strengthens Crowell & Moring leading position in IP litigation.

Edward Taelman joins Crowell & Moring from his position as a senior associate at Allen & Overy in Brussels. Since 2018, he was a senior associate in their intellectual property department; where he worked together with Geert Glas, one of Belgium's best-known lawyers in the field of intellectual property.

Edward is today recognized as a "rising star" by Legal 500, Managing IP, IP Stars, and WTR 1000. Looking for a new challenge, Edward is eager to build his practice within a well-established, collaborative and reputable IP department of an international law firm.

A rich experience giving him solid expertise

Throughout his career, Edward handled IP cases in both Belgian and European courts in sectors as diverse as e-commerce, technology, media and life sciences. He has also dealt with cases involving a broad range of intellectual property rights, such as design rights, database rights and trade secrets. In addition, Edward further expanded his expertise in ‘advisory work’, such as drafting licensing and franchise agreements and guiding clients through the IP aspects of business transactions. He also advises clients in complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and New Deal for consumers.

Evolutions in AI and other new technologies are changing people’s lives rapidly. European Union's digital regulatory initiatives such as the Digital Services Act and the AI Act, are following quickly. This fast-evolving era of digitalization pushes Edward to look for the latest industry trends and insights.

"New technologies have dominated the news in recent years thanks to unique breakthroughs in AI, e-commerce, life sciences, ... I feel that a thorough knowledge of procedural law is necessary to present innovative arguments in court. That’s what I do as a lawyer every day!", says Edward Taelman.

An asset for trademark law

Further building the firm’s specialization in trademark litigation offers an opportunity for Crowell & Moring Brussels to keep intellectual property at the heart of their office. Although the firm's existing partners already work on trademark litigation, Edward’s expertise in this field and his tier one experience in fast-moving digital regulation in the EU strengthens and expands Crowell’s position in IP-practice.

"Edward has proven his expertise and deep understanding of the complexities of trademark law, filling current gaps in our trademark litigation practice. In-depth knowledge, combined with Edward’s ability to develop and implement effective litigation strategies, makes him an ideal candidate for our team. Edward’s arrival complements and completes the IP team’s know-how and expertise. Over a decade of experience has equipped him with a unique perspective on the complexities of IP law and a strong skill set that aligns perfectly with our firm's goals.", says Kristof Roox & Thomas De Meese from Crowell & Moring.
