Linklaters appoints two new partners strengthening its capabilities in Belgium

Linklaters has announced the election of 41 new partners drawn from 14 jurisdictions and 11 practice areas and 45 new counsel across 14 jurisdictions and 13 practice areas. The elections take effect from 1 May 2022.

We are delighted that 41% of all our newly-elected partners are women in line with our gender target of electing at least 40% female partners each year.

Linklaters is particularly thrilled to welcome Caroline Borgers (Tax) and Neil Hoolihan (Antitrust & Foreign Investment Group) in Brussels to the global partnership.

Caroline advises clients on many areas of Belgian and international tax law. Her specialisms include advising on R&D tax incentives, the structuring of incentive compensation plans, (cross-border) M&A deals, fund structuring, financial transactions and real estate transactions. She also assists clients in the framework of tax audits and in State aid taxation investigations and proceedings before the EU Courts.

Neil advises on the full range of competition matters with an emphasis on global merger control and foreign investment rules. He has a particular focus advising financial sponsor clients in relation to investments/divestments across the healthcare, manufacturing, energy and other infrastructure sectors. Neil regularly advises clients in relation to merger control filings before the European Commission and the UK’s Competition & Markets Authority.

Aedamar Comiskey, Senior Partner and Chair of Linklaters, said: “My warmest congratulations to all those who have been promoted and I wish them every success in the next phase of their careers with us. These promotions encapsulate the global nature and diversity of talent we have at Linklaters, across all our practice areas and jurisdictions, underpinned by our strong culture and our commitment to investing in our people. Each promotion is a hugely deserved recognition of top talent, hard work and dedication to delivering strategic excellence; and I know they’ll continue to further our bold and ambitious growth, delivering outstanding results for our clients.”

Stefaan Loosveld, Managing Partner, Linklaters Belgium, said: “We are really thrilled that Caroline and Neil will join us in Brussels as partners. Their elections demonstrate the continued importance of Linklaters’ Belgian offices as part of our firm’s global strategy and ambition, as well as our service and commitment to our Belgian and international clients. Their elections reflect the versatility and breadth of our offering out of Brussels in today’s challenging and quickly changing business environment, including in relation to EU and Belgian Tax, Antitrust and Foreign Investment work”.
