Cleary Gottlieb appoints new partner and counsels in the Brussels office

Cleary Gottlieb has named 11 partners, nine counsel, and four senior attorneys, effective January 1, 2022. 

The promotions will bring the firm’s total worldwide partners to 171, counsel to 56, and senior attorneys to 42.

The new partners, counsel, and senior attorneys are resident in the firm’s Abu Dhabi, Brussels, Cologne, London, Milan, New York, Paris, Rome, and Washington, D.C. offices. Their practice areas include antitrust, bankruptcy, capital markets, corporate, debt finance, e-discovery, financial institutions and regulation, foreign investment and national security, intellectual property, litigation, and mergers and acquisitions.

The new senior lawyers in the Brussels office are:​

  • Andris Rimsa (Counsel, Brussels/Competition) Andris’ practice focuses on EU competition law, advising clients on a wide range of issues including restrictive practices, merger control proceedings, abuse of dominance, and litigation before EU courts. He has advised a significant number of clients, including American Express, Google, Hanon Systems, IBM, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Lundbeck, NVIDIA, OCI, Ontex, Tronox, and the Union Cycliste Internationale.
     
  • Marijke Spooren (Partner, Brussels/M&A) Marijke’s practice focuses on corporate law, domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, corporate governance matters, and capital markets transactions. She has advised a broad array of clients, including Bekaert, Blackrock, bpost, Carlyle, D’Ieteren, OCI, Ontex, and Silver Point Capital.
     
  • Christophe Wauters (Counsel, Brussels/Debt Finance) Christophe’s practice focuses primarily on financing, debt restructuring, and bank regulation. His recent representations include work for ArcelorMittal, Axereal, Belron, Republic of Benin, BNP Paribas Fortis, Republic of Chad, CMA CGM, Euronext, Goodyear, Republic of Ivory Coast, PETROSEN, and Republic of Senegal.
