Notary Eric Spruyt steps down

After a career spanning more than 25 years at the firm Berquin Notaries, notary Eric Spruyt has decided to step down from his position. The firm thanks him for his years of dedication and wishes him every success in his next (quieter) chapter, focused on his family and at university.

Berquin Notaries is very pleased to introduce his successor: Frederic Helsen, who was sworn in on February 15, 2021. Since he joined us in 2016, Frederic has been able to settle into our firm well and has had ample opportunity to familiarize himself with our clients and our staff. Moreover, Frederic has all the substantive and human qualities to help build our firm and serve our clients long term.

After his studies in law, economics and business administration (bachelor, KU Leuven, 2009) and law (master, KU Leuven and Duke Law School, 2011) he started a PhD at the Institute of Commercial and Insolvency Law of the Law Faculty of KU Leuven. After research stays at Harvard Law School (2014-2015) and Berkeley School of Law (2015) as a fellow of Fulbright and the BAEF, he obtained his doctorate in the economic analysis of secured lending law in 2016. During this period, he also obtained his master's degree in Notary law from VUB in 2014, and was an assistant professor at the China-EU School of Law in Beijing in 2016.
