Two new partners at Crowell & Moring's Brussels office

Crowell & Moring LLP has elected eight lawyers to the firm’s partnership, effective January 1, 2019. The new partners have been promoted from within the ranks of the firm’s Washington, New York, and Brussels offices. The firm has also promoted 21 associates to the position of counsel.

The attorneys promoted to partner in the Brussels' office are Maarten Stassen and Frederik Van Remoortel, who are both member of the firm's Privacy & Cybersecurity Group. In addition, Frederik Van Remoortel is member of the corporate group.

Moreover, associate Jurgen Figys from the Intellectual Property Group was promoted to Counsel, effective January 1, 2019.

Jurgen’s practice focuses primarily upon intellectual property and life sciences.

Maarten’s practice focuses on privacy and data protection, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and cybersecurity incident management, as well as on the legal and operational aspects of the digital ecosystem, including Internet of Things (IoT) and upcoming technologies such as Distributed Ledger Technology (e.g. Blockchain). He has been focusing on privacy and data protection law for many years, first as a lawyer in both Spain and Belgium, and later as European privacy officer of an international health insurance company and as a director in Deloitte’s Cyber practice.

Frederik regularly assists large and medium-sized international companies in setting up and operating their business in Belgium. He works with clients on Belgian and EU M&A transactions and restructurings, including due diligence. A substantial part of Van Remoortel’s work consists of drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts. In addition to his corporate practice, Van Remoortel advises clients on Belgian and EU data protection and privacy legislation, in particular GDPR.

We are proud to celebrate our new partners and counsel, who have demonstrated professional excellence and sustained commitment to our clients, our firm, and—in true Crowell & Moring spirit—our community,” said Philip T. Inglima, chair of Crowell & Moring.
