Fieldfisher promotes Jochen Beck and Maxime Berlingin to partnership

Fieldfisher announces today the promotion of Jochen Beck and Maxime Berlingin to its partnership, effective from 1 May 2018. Jochen and Maxime, who are based in the Brussels office, joined the firm respectively in 2013 and 2016 as Of Counsels.

Member of the Brussels Bar, the UK Bar and the NY Bar, Jochen specialises in all international trade matters, working in the Competition, Regulatory and Trade practice. He advises on a broad range of international trade and regulatory issues under EU and Member State legislations, as well as the application of the WTO and other international agreements.

Jochen has a particular focus on EU trade defence instruments, export controls and sanctions, and customs and regulatory law. He works with clients in various industries, such as aerospace and defence, automotive, semiconductor, construction, aluminium iron and steel, consumer products, agriculture and food products, and chemicals and pharmaceutical products.

Jochen has been recurrently recommended by renowned legal directories: he is ranked as Up and Coming lawyer by Chambers Europe and as Next Generation Lawyer by the Legal 500.

Prior to joining Fieldfisher, Jochen worked in the trade teams of several law firms, amongst others, Squire Sanders and Crowell & Moring LLP.

Member of the Brussels Bar, Maxime focuses on litigation and arbitration. His experience covers representation of Belgian and foreign clients in contractual disputes, shareholders' disputes, directors' liability cases and real estate cases.

Maxime has broad experience in domestic and international commercial arbitration both as counsel and arbitrator. He also handles enforcement proceedings of national and international awards before Belgian courts, as well as setting aside proceedings. In this framework, Maxime has advised international clients seeking to enforce an international arbitral award in Belgium or opposing such enforcements.

He is also on the list of arbitrators of the CBAS, the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Maxime is co-editor in chief of the CEPANI (the Belgian Centre for Mediation and Arbitration) newsletter, member of the board of the Belgian chapter of the Club español del arbitraje and a member of several institutes and associations related to arbitration such as the CEPANI, the Dutch Arbitration Association and the Commission on Arbitration and ADR and of the Commission on Commercial Law an Practice of the International Commercial Court.

Prior to joining Fieldfisher, Maxime worked in the litigation and arbitration department of the Benelux firm NautaDutilh.

Maxime is a lecturer in contract law and ADR at Saint-Louis University – Brussels and regularly publishes articles in the field of contract law, corporate law and arbitration.

Jochen and Maxime's roles will be to expand the international trade and dispute resolution practices in Belgium and in Europe.
