Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to welcome Monika Kuschewsky as a partner in the firm’s global Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Group, and a member of the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. Ms. Kuschewsky will be based in Brussels, where she has practised since 2000, most recently at Covington & Burling LLP.
Over the past decade, Ms. Kuschewsky has developed a wide range of experience in the areas of data protection, privacy and cybersecurity. She has a particular focus on international data transfers, employee data, vendor agreements and direct marketing. In addition to routinely managing multijurisdictional data protection audits and compliance programs across Europe and globally, she has advised several clients on securing approvals for Binding Corporate Rules (BCR). More recently, she has advised on compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and navigating the challenges of transatlantic data transfers under the new EU-U.S. Privacy Shield and using the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. She also advises on the data protection implications of the use of new technologies, such as the Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing, geolocation services, mobile apps and social networks. In addition to her media and technology client base, she actively advises in the pharmaceutical and the automotive and transportation sectors, among others.

Ms. Kuschewky is a German Rechtsanwältin, and a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) and Betrieblicher Datenschutzbeauftragter (company data protection officer) (GDDcert.). She is co-chair of the International Association of Privacy Professionals' Brussels KnowledgeNet, a member of the Digital Economy Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union, and General Editor of "Data Protection & Privacy – Jurisdictional Comparisons" (International Series/Sweet & Maxwell), which has just published its third edition. She is recommended in The Legal 500 EMEA and JUVE, as well as Who's Who Legal: Technology, Media & Telecommunications, having been nominated as one of the world's leading practitioners in Belgium.
