As a Risk & Compliance Manager you will:

  • Report to the Managing Partner of A&O Belgium and the Belgian Risk Partners;
     
  • Be part of the Global Risk Management team;
     
  • Be part of the Belgian Management team.

The Belgian Risk & Compliance Manager is responsible for:

  • Implementing the global risk policies and monitoring specific Belgian risks, related policies and processes;
     
  • Claims management, with interaction with Allen & Overy global risk management team, brokers and insurers;
     
  • Assisting the Belgian Risk Partners with risk management matters;
     
  • Following up and monitoring of applicable Belgian legal and regulatory (including ethical) rules;
     
  • Drafting and updating the Belgian Risk Register and policies;
     
  • Management of the templates of Belgian engagement letters and assisting with Belgian law queries and matters relating to engagement letters;
     
  • Assisting in the regular completion and maintenance of the Belgian Risk Register;
     
  • Reporting on annual compliance;
     
  • Providing training sessions to the partners, lawyers and staff related to risk management and compliance;
     
  • Working with the Global Risk & Compliance Team on international projects (e.g. in relation to anti-money laundering and engagement terms) and surveys, and providing Belgian input into such projects and surveys;
     
  • Assisting the Global Risk & Compliance Team with their queries relating to Belgian legal and regulatory (including ethical) rules and helping to ensure that Global Policies are up to date from a Belgian legal and regulatory (including ethical) perspective.

  • You obtained a Belgian Master in Law and you have gained at least 5 years of experience in Risk Management and Claims Management;
     
  • You preferably have acquired experience in an international and challenging environment dealing with topics such as AML, KYC, GDPR, White collar crime, etc;
     
  • You have an excellent command of Dutch, French and English, both written and spoken;
     
  • You have strong communication skills, demonstrating a clear and articulate standard of written and verbal communication in a complex environment;
     
  • You are a creative and flexible person, you have an entrepreneurial spirit
     
  • You have strong interpersonal/networking skills, with the ability to maintain a variety of relationships with multiple stakeholders;
     
  • You are self-motivated, well-organised, and able to perform tasks independently;
     
  • You have a great sense of organization and planning, are process driven and attentive to details.
