DLA Piper announces partner promotion in Belgium

DLA Piper is pleased to announce the promotion of Brussels-based employment lawyer, Laurent De Surgeloose, to its partnership effective 1 May 2018.

Laurent joined DLA Piper as an associate in 2011. Laurent is an employment lawyer with a strong focus on compliance with data privacy issues in an HR context including whistleblowing, processing of employees' personal data and monitoring of employees. He increasingly advises clients on considerations around international mobility of their workforce for international companies entering the Belgium market and their legal obligations under Belgian law. He has a strong expertise in dealing with labour leasing issues mainly for technology companies and he is also specialized in complementary pension matters. Laurent services both the Flemish and French-speaking parts of the country.

Laurent is among 62 lawyers to be promoted by the firm across the globe. His appointment takes the total number of partners in Belgium to 19, demonstrating DLA Piper's organic growth and commitment to career development and promoting from within its own ranks.

Co-Country Managing Partners, Annelies Verlinden and Kristof De Vulder, have commented: "Laurent is a talented and driven lawyer with ambitious plans for his practice. He consistently delivers high quality, commercially astute legal advice and excellent service to our clients and we are very happy to welcome him to our partnership.
