Steptoe expands Competition & Antitrust Team in Brussels

Steptoe & Johnson LLP announces that Robert (Bob) Fleishman will move to the firm's Brussels office to expand Steptoe's competition capabilities in the European Union. Mr. Fleishman, a partner in the Washington office, served as leader of the Antitrust Group before handing this role over to its current head, Ken Ewing. He is also a member of the Intellectual Property Group.

"Our Brussels office works on cutting-edge questions in antitrust policy. For example, I look forward to working with my EU colleagues on current cases alleging abuses of dominant position as we help new and existing clients navigate the challenges of EU and US regulatory environments," said Mr. Fleishman.

"Bob's arrival further develops our thriving Brussels antitrust practice," said Jean Russotto, Brussels Office Managing Partner. "His work as a trial attorney at the US Federal Trade Commission and his decades of experience in antitrust counseling make him invaluable to our multinational clients and will help to attract other talented professionals to the practice. His experience perfectly complements the work of our antitrust team led by Dr. Kees Kuilwijk."

Mr. Fleishman has significant experience in all antitrust aspects of strategic corporate acquisitions and mergers and has served as lead antitrust counsel in numerous transactions in a wide variety of industries. Clients seek his counsel in acquisition planning and in the interaction between international trade strategies and competition policy. His antitrust practice includes technology licensing, distribution and franchising agreements, and joint ventures.

Mr. Fleishman joins a multinational team of lawyers in Steptoe's Brussels office who focus on four key areas: competition/antitrust and state aid; environment, life sciences and nanotechnology; financial services and insurance; and trade. Our Brussels office is led by lawyers with more than 40 years of experience in the capital of Europe.
