Taylor Wessing expands its Life Sciences team

Taylor Wessing is expanding its Life Sciences team with patent expert Yolandi Coetzee to support its litigation practice. Yolandi moved from South Africa to the Netherlands to join Taylor Wessing. Yolandi, holding degrees in both science and law, is a qualified microbiologist and biochemist. She is a registered South African patent attorney and also admitted to the court in South Africa.

Partner Wim Maas, head of the patent practice the Netherlands & Belgium: “We take a true sector approach to the life sciences industry, where we combine the strengths of experts in various practice areas. We work with a wide array of clients: from well-known healthcare providers and some of the largest pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies in the world, to a diverse collection of small-to-medium-sized start-up enterprises ready to up-scale their business, and many companies in between. Recently, our Life Sciences team has been rewarded with the LMG Life Sciences Parallel Import firm of the year. With her relevant life sciences background, Yolandi is a valuable addition to our Life Sciences team. We are happy to welcome her.”

Yolandi was born in South Africa and in June 2022 she moved, together with her husband and two children, to the Netherlands to join Taylor Wessing. Yolandi has worked as a microbiologist and laboratory manager prior to her career in intellectual property. In pursuing the latter, she was fortunate to work for a well renowned international intellectual property firm and a few boutique patent law firms to sharpen her expertise in handling patent, design and trade mark related matters that cover various jurisdictions. Yolandi has over 5 years of experience in the field of intellectual property.

Yolandi added: "I am very excited to join Taylor Wessing. The innovative international businesses that this global law firm serves, is a perfect match with my experience in patent cases and with what I hope to achieve as a professional. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity.”
