Jo Willems promoted to partner at law firm Lydian

Jo Willems, who is mentioned as a Rising Star for several years already in the internationally renowned Legal 500, began his career in 2005 as a trainee in Lydian’s Commercial & Litigation team. Under the guidance of current Managing Partner Hugo Keulers, he developed his expertise in commercial law and litigation and steadily built up his network of local and international clients. His promotion to partner shows perfectly how Lydian handles talent and offers young lawyers so many opportunities. Jo Willems is the first new partner of his generation at Lydian

Jo obtained his law degree in 2004 at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Catholic University of Leuven). In 2005 he obtained a DES (postgraduate degree) in economic law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and was admitted to the Brussels bar in the same year. Jo specialises in commercial law and strategically important disputes, often with an international component. He has extensive experience in assisting companies and insurers in matters such as contract management, distribution, product liability, shareholder conflicts and professional liability. Since 2005, he has not only been developing his network of local and international clients in the field of commercial law but also been helping to expand the highly renowned insurance practise of Lydian:

I have always been committed to build up my network of clients for commercial matters but also to strengthen Lydian’s insurance capabilities by adding unique litigation expertise in the field of professional liability , complex life insurance products, product liability and defence work. On many occasions I have worked together in these matters with reputed foreign legal counsel and I have also instructed them on matters originating from Lydian’s own commercial and insurance clients.

Managing Partner Hugo Keulers and Jo Willems have always worked in tandem and this collaboration went very smoothly.

It’s wonderful to see how Jo is getting better and better. Not only in his technical expertise, but also the way he deals with clients and trains younger lawyers is exemplary. So for everyone who has worked with Jo this step was an obvious one.’ explains Hugo Keulers. ‘It’s the lawyers and staff who propagate the firm’s culture and values and make up its DNA. Being able to commit the best talents to your firm and surround them in such a way that they can grow is the biggest challenge for everyone in the services sector.’
