Bird & Bird appoints Domien Op de Beeck as partner

International law firm Bird & Bird has appointed Brussels-based intellectual property (IP) lawyer Domien Op de Beeck as partner.

Domien has represented Bird & Bird’s clients before courts and intellectual property offices in Belgium and abroad since he joined the firm in 2007. He has established himself as a technical IP expert, assisting clients in all areas of IP, with particular focus on patent, design and trade secrecy laws.

His work has been recognised by legal directories, where he is consistently highlighted as a “rising star” in IP and patent matters. He is an active member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), where he is a permanent member of its design and patent groups. He is also a member of the Licensing Executing Society (LES) and the European Patent Lawyers Association (EPLAW).

Anne Federle, Co-head of Bird & Bird’s Brussels office, says:

We are absolutely delighted to name Domien as partner. He is one of the most respected patent lawyers in Belgium and his promotion underscores the value he brings, both to our top-tier IP practice and to clients.”

Jean-Christophe Troussel, Head of the Bird & Bird Brussels IP practice, says:

Domien has been an essential member of our tier-one IP team for the past 12 years and stands his ground in court like few others. Our clients value his familiarity of the technological landscape and his ability to grasp the most complex science. We are fortunate to have him on our team, and I am personally proud to see his promotion to partner.”

Domien is one of seven newly appointed partners in Bird & Bird’s annual global promotion round, effective from May 2020. To view the global list of promotions, visit the Bird & Bird website.

David Kerr, CEO of Bird & Bird, says:

Congratulations to Afra, Claudia, Djazia, Domien, Federico, Mark and Rebecca – I’m thrilled to welcome each of these driven, talented individuals to the partnership.

Bird & Bird believes in the importance of encouraging and rewarding talent, and the appointment of seven sharp legal minds to our partnership sets the firm up for long term success and prosperity, despite the challenging circumstances we are all currently facing.

I look forward to celebrating with you all in person, hopefully in the not too distant future.”
