Clifford Chance elects new Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance today announces the promotion to partner of Dorothée Vermeiren in Brussels, as part of a global cohort of 30 lawyers elected to the partnership, drawn from all of the firm's market-leading practices and across its global network.

Dorothée Vermeiren becomes a partner in the Firm's Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice and will be heading the practice in the Brussels office.

Dorothée is an experienced litigator focusing on restructuring and insolvencies, litigation for financial institutions and general commercial litigation and arbitration. For example, she has been leading on the KONE cases, representing KONE in various proceedings brought against it and three other major elevator manufacturers by the European Commission for several millions of damages allegedly flowing from the cartel addressed in the Commission's decision of 2007. Dorothée has also been advising Canadian pension fund Alberta Investment Management Corporate (AIMCo) on the ongoing dispute between Docks Bruxsel shopping centre and White Cinema, one of its tenants, which follows from the acquisition of Docks by AIMCo at the beginning of last year.

Bert De Maeyer, Clifford Chance Brussels Office Managing Partner comments, "As we reach the end of another successful year in Brussels, we are delighted to see the promotion of Dorothée Vermeiren to the partnership. I am particularly proud to have seen at first hand her progression to partnership from joining Clifford Chance Brussels as a trainee in 2007. Her promotion underlines our strategy to be the 'go-to' international law firm in Belgium. Dorothée is recognised by clients and the market for the quality of her expertise, her client-focus and solution-driven approach. I congratulate Dorothée on her impressive track record to date and look forward to the continued expansion and development of the Brussels Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice under her leadership."

Matthew Layton, Clifford Chance Global Managing Partner comments, "I am proud to welcome such a talented group of lawyers into the Clifford Chance partnership. Every one of them has demonstrated commitment to delivering great service to our clients through their deep expertise and collaborative teamwork with colleagues throughout the firm.

These promotions underline our continued investment in those areas that are increasingly important to our clients, such as regulatory and internal investigations, tech and sector specialisms such as funds and investment management. They also reflect our commitment to ensure that the diversity of our partnership develops to reflect the rich pool of talent across our global firm today. The voices of this group, and other newer generations in the firm, are essential in shaping our future in a fast-changing market environment. I look forward to working with them all as we help our clients with their biggest opportunities and challenges in the years ahead."

The promotions take effect 1 May 2019.
