DALDEWOLF welcomes Carole Maczkovics and Valentin de le Court as partners

DALDEWOLF is pleased to announce that Carole Maczkovics joins its team as State aid and regulatory partner in the EU and competition Practice Group, and Valentin de le Court as partner in the IP/IT Practice Group.

Patrick De Wolf, managing partner of DALDEWOLF, comments: “As illustrated by the recent decisions of the EU Commission into the different national tax schemes, State aid issues become an important part of compliance with competition rules. Carole’s distinctive experience in State aid and regulatory matters, combined with a strong public law background will perfectly complement our EU and competition practice developed by Thierry Bontinck and Pierre Goffinet and reinforce our public law team led by Emmanuel van Nuffel. Expanding our IP capabilities was also a priority for the firm and the complementarity of Valentin’s experience in the industrial property field as well as his niche expertise in Chinese IP law will perfectly complete our IP/IT service offering. Both lawyers will further contribute to our strategic positioning on the Belgian and international markets as a firm offering high quality business law services to our clients”.

Prior to joining DALDEWOLF, Carole worked at DLA Piper, a global law firm. She started her career as a fellow researcher in EU regulation and as an expert for the Federal Minister of transport. She also acted as a government’s commissioner to the rail infrastructure manager.

Her expertise built over 15 years covers EU and competition law, and in particular, public interventions in the economy, such as State aid, regulation, and public contracts including subsidies and public procurement. Carole is also particularly knowledgeable on regulated network industries (transport - railways and airways -, telecom, postal services and energy). She also lectures on competition law and regulations in the railways industry at King’s College London.

Carole Maczkovics shares her enthusiasm: “I am delighted to join such a dynamic law firm. What particularly attracts me at DALDEWOLF is the perspective of working in full integration with the EU and competition practice group, uniquely combining legal and economic expertise. The holistic approach that we will adopt will definitely bring added value to our clients”.

Valentin de le Court specialises in litigation and non-contentious IP law matters, with a particular focus on patent and trademark contracts and disputes, trade secret protection and China related technology transfer and IP strategies. He is an appointed expert of the 'China IPR SME Helpdesk', an EU Commission funded project that supports European SMEs with their China IP law issues.

Prior to becoming a partner of DALDEWOLF, Valentin worked as head of the Contracting, Dispute Resolution and China Desk Teams of IP firm Gevers, which he joined after having spent four years in Shanghai (P.R.C.) working for a leading Chinese IP firm (HFG Law & Intellectual Property). Before his move to China, Valentin was part of the IP/IT department of Belgian law firm Liedekerke where he focused on patent and trademarks.

Valentin adds: “Now is the right time for me to get back to the bar. I am really excited to do so with DALDEWOLF. My Chinese and industrial property law expertise usefully complement the current capabilities of the IP/IT team led by Sari Depreeuw. I am convinced that our clients will benefit from the synergies created by our respective experiences. In this perspective, I’m also particularly proud to become a key-member of the firm’s STARTITUP project and to support the growth of young innovative businesses through a targeted China and IP law service offering”.
