For the expansion of its legal team, Argenx is looking for a Legal Counsel with experience in advising on the legal aspects related to clinical trials.

The Legal Counsel supports all legal dimensions of the company’s business: he/she is directly involved in various legal aspects of the company’s business and operations, supports legal contracts and contract negotiations and coordinates or manages external legal advisors.

He/she will report to the General Counsel and will closely collaborate with colleagues in the compliance functions, as well as in the business development, finance, tax, HR, research and development and regulatory functional areas of the company. The Legal Counsel may furthermore support the General Counsel in all corporate governance and compliance matters.

The position will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Manage the legal aspects of clinical trials in cooperation with the business and the CRO’s through reviewing, drafting and negotiating service master agreements, clinical trial agreements, manufacturing and supply agreements; collaborative research agreements; strategic alliances; and others, as necessary.
  • Give accurate and timely counsel in a variety of legal topics to the operational and other departments and participate in the negotiation process with e.g. suppliers, contractors and other counterparties; provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization.
  • Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including licenses; sub-licenses; services agreements; MOUs and consulting agreements.
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, public authority etc.) and supervise and coordinate relationships with outside suppliers of legal services, creating relations of trust. Negotiating rates, discounts and challenging invoices are part of that responsibility.
  • Participate in the definition, development and training of (internal) corporate policies, procedures and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications of all matters.

  • Master’s degree or higher in law from a Belgian, Dutch or US university
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience as practicing lawyer, with a reputable law firm and/or solid inhouse experience within the biotech or pharma industry or within a Contract Research Organization (CRO);
  • Knowledge of the legal aspects related to clinical trials is required
  • Fluent in English and in Dutch
  • High degree of professional ethics, integrity and responsibility
  • Flexible attitude and open to changes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to work well and build relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders and characters
  • Excellent communication skills – able to state opposing or unpopular views in a clear and independent fashion
  • Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information and outstanding legal reasoning and strategic thinking ability
