Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. is currently searching for a Group Legal Director (m/f) for its activities in Continental Europe where the Group operates under the names of Pro-Duo and Sinelco International.

Pro-Duo NV is an international distributor of professional hair and beauty supplies with more than 190 Hair & Beauty stores for hairdressers and beauticians in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain and The Netherlands. 

Pro-Duo offers more than 5, 000 products for hair, skin and nails through professional lines such as L'Oréal, Schwarzkopf, Wella, Tigi, as well as an extensive selection exclusive brands such as Phytodess, Osmo, Jean Marin, XP100, Proxelli and Wunderbar.

Sinelco International BVBA (Sinelco) is a supplier of professional hair and beauty products, including electrical appliances, accessories, beauty products and furniture to distributors and retailers in over 40 countries.

This position is based in Ghent, Belgium.

Legal director's role will be to support proactively the Continental European business units growth plan, while ensuring the protection of the Group’s rights and interests as well as its compliance with applicable laws.

The Legal director will notably be responsible for:

  • Provide strong executive and legal support to the European Group management on a variety of tasks and projects;

  • Provide legal advice to Country Managers and other members of the local management teams on all business operations and activities of our client (e.g. store lease agreements, franchise matters);

  • Provide legal advice to Group Purchasing and Product Development, in particular prepare, review, negotiate and finalize contractual documentation;

  • Provide legal advice to other departments within the company on any matters that are legal in nature (e.g. HR, General Services departments.);

  • Managing all claims (except for accounts payables) and the few litigation in different jurisdictions in order to defend the interests of the Group, including developing and implementing appropriate risk-mitigation strategies;

  • Take the lead in preparing the European Group entities for and implement the new legal requirements re. privacy legislation;

  • Work in tight cooperation with other legal experts within the Group as required;

  • Supervise the European Group Regulatory Manager to ensure the Group’s product and regulatory compliance;

  • Supervise corporate secretarial and corporate restructuring activities performed by the Paralegal to ensure compliance of the Group’s entities with local laws;

  • Select, liaise with and manage outside counsels.

The Legal director will report to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel based in the US with a dotted line to the Managing Director Continental Europe. He/she will be a member of the executive committee of the Continental European headquarters. 

  • Master in Law with a minimum of eight 8 years' of relevant experience in commercial contracts law and in business law in the broad sense, gained in a law firm or as in-house counsel;

  • Fluent in English, French and Dutch (the command of the three languages is essential). Spanish and German are an asset;

  • A wide-ranging and generalist legal perspective on matters and possesses the proper legal- critical instincts;

  • Business-oriented, pro-active, pragmatic and commercial in outlook;

  • Excellent communication skills (internally and externally);

  • Knows how to work in an independent manner and has a “hands-on” mentality;

  • Flexible, open to changes, able to anticipate and quick to adapt to a fast-growing, fast-evolving and challenging environment;

  • Good team player;

  • International mindset: ability to work with people within different countries and languages, prepared to travel occasionally;

  • Works well under pressure and knows how to set priorities;
