The AXA Procurement Department is responsible for the selection and management of suppliers ensuring AXA entities in Belgium acquire and use the right goods, services and suppliers for expenditure categories such as: technology, marketing, professional services and facility services. 

In order to reinforce the AXA Procurement Department, our client is currently looking for a Legal, Risk and Compliance advisor.

As a Legal, Risk and Compliance advisor, you ensure legal compliance of all procurement activities and you contribute to the design of a new way of working finding the right balance between risk exposure and positive business outcomes.

The position will report to the head of Procurement and is based in Brussels with regular presence in Berchem. You will be a member of the AXA Belgium and AXA Bank Belgium legal community animated by the Head of Corporate Legal. You will be closely working with Risk Management team and Group Procurement team.

Be the legal expert within the Procurement team

  • As contract advisor, your role is to protect the interests of AXA when contracting with third parties for the acquisition of goods and services.
  • To do so, you provide first line legal support to the Procurement buyers’ community on contract drafting during sourcing projects. You advise them on most appropriate wording and position to take when deviating from standard templates based on a contract risk analysis. You negotiate contractual terms with suppliers or validate contracts prior signature.
  • You advise on various legal issues that might come up along contracts lifecycle and work closely with Corporate Legal department to resolve disputes with suppliers.
  • You drive standardization of legal templates based on the 'best in class' principle. You maintain the contract toolbox (i.e. contract-templates, standard appendices and schedules) up to date.
  • You ensure new laws, requirements (internal and external) and regulations are adequately integrated in due time into our standard contracts (e.g. data protection).
  • You ensure continuous external benchmark with peers and constantly look for simplification and efficiency in the contracting process.
  • You provide training to the Procurement community on topics relevant to third parties agreement. To do so you will lead and animate the Procurement Legal Academy.

Be the compliance coordinator within the Procurement team

  • You coordinate with Compliance Officer and other Subject Matter Experts (Audit, Risk Management, Security Officer, Compliance Officer, Data Privacy Officer, Internal Control) to proactively understand requirements and ensure those are adequately embedded in the procurement processes.
  • You closely liaise and work with Group Legal Procurement and Local Corporate Legal to align on latest standards to apply and make recommendation to improve our contracting framework and drive best practices.

Be the expert in third party risk management 

  • You coordinate with Risk Management in order to proactively identify risks and mitigate them in a consistent manner when dealing with third parties.
  • You own the third party risk assessment framework, ensure appropriate risk management strategies and control framework are in place and act as first point of contact for local third parties risk management.

  • You have minimum a Master degree in Law.
  • You have between 3 to 5 years’ experience of practice in a major law firm and/or multinational company with experience in IT, digital and outsourcing commercial contract drafting, review and negotiation.
  • You are solution oriented, pragmatic and you’re able to translate procurement and business concepts into contract and frameworks.
  • You are a team player and are capable of guiding other professionals as a subject matter expert.
  • You understand in detail all the steps of a sourcing process and 3rd parties risk management.
  • You can demonstrate solid negotiation skills related to complex legal matters in contacts with both internal and external parties.
  • You do understand the importance to agree on SLA's with suppliers and stakeholders and of how to ensure tracking and reporting of supplier performance.
  • You are fluent in English, French or Dutch (spoken and written). Contracts are predominantly drafted in English though legacy contracts might be written in French or Dutch.
