Within the Legal Department, based in the headquarters in Antwerp, BOORTMALT is currently looking for a Legal Counsel (m/f).

As a Legal Counsel you will be responsible for all legal matters within the global organization, reporting to the Group Legal & Group Indirect Procurement Manager. 

You will actively be involved in the company’s Corporate household, Finance, Commercial and Production legal practices.

In this role, your core responsibilities will be to: 

  • Ensure legal compliance of the business unit.
  • Provide legal support and business-oriented legal advice in the broadest sense and in particular on commercial contracts.
  • Manage disputes and claims with third parties.
  • Support and pro-actively advise various internal stakeholders within the business units including finance, operations and sales to implement a broad variety of international corporate projects.
  • Participate in general corporate matters and liaise with external lawyers.
  • Assist in subsidiary capitalizations, intercompany lending and other agreements, share transfers, powers of attorney, subsidiary mergers and liquidations.
  • Provide commercially-focused legal advice on Data Privacy and other international regulations as well as on compliance issues and IP. 
  • Support Axereal group initiatives on legal matters requiring group-wide compliance.
  • Assist in protecting the legal interests of Boortmalt and its subsidiaries in judicial or other proceedings utilizing external counsel when required.

Your working area will be both national and international (occasional travel required).

  • You hold a master degree in Law and you possess excellent academic credentials.
  • You have 5 to 8 years of experience in an international corporate law firm or as an in-house counsel in an international legal department, preferably with a focus on international transactions.
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English and Dutch. French is a plus.
  • You are well-organized and you are able to establish a strong internal network and external network.  You communicate effectively regarding the status and developments of the tasks assigned.
  • You prioritize work by understanding competing priorities and you are able to make appropriate judgments regarding relative importance and you delegate where necessary.
  • You read and interpret documents such as safety rules, company policy and procedure manuals. You are able to write business reports and correspondence.
  • You are punctual and detail-oriented.
  • You speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, and management.
  • You are proficient and accurate with word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), presentation programs (PowerPoint), charting, and graphs.
  • You solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • You have a pronounced international interest and you value cultural diversity.
