You will be assuming the official mandate of Data Protection Officer and ensuring that the group adheres to legal standards in general, with particular focus on data protection regulations and in-house policies to preserve the group’s integrity by making sure it stays on a lawful and ethical course. 

Your main responsibilities will include to: 

  • Develop, monitor and coordinate the group’s compliance program:
    • Oversee control systems and compliance reporting to prevent violations of legal guidelines and internal policies
    • Evaluate the efficiency of control systems and improve such controls
    • Evaluate processes and procedures to identify risk or non-compliance issues and provide recommendations relating to the implementation of the necessary changes and serve as a sounding board for the group’s relevant business lines in the framework of the implementation of recommendations
    • Prepare management reports regarding compliance issues
    • Keep abreast of regulatory developments in close cooperation with the local legal departments
       
  • Monitor, coordinate and evaluate the group’s risk management program:
    • Evaluate the efficiency of the risk management program
    • Identify potential areas of risks and/or modified assessment of risks
    • Provide recommendations for an improved risk management and serve as sounding board for the group’s relevant business lines in the framework of the implementation of recommendations 
       
  • Assume the role of Data Protection Officer
     
  • Act as point of contact with data protection authorities and coordinate interactions with internal teams and data subjects relating to data protection issues
     
  • Oversee and evaluate the group’s data processing activities and manage the group’s records of processing
     
  • Provide advice and instructions on data protection impact assessments
     
  • Create and maintain effective and sustainable data privacy & protection management programs while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable legislation
     
  • Advice on how to deal with privacy breaches
     
  • Develop the necessary (data protection) training programs 
     
  • Perform audits and advice on necessary changes in processes and procedures to comply with (data protection) regulation. 

As a Data Protection and Compliance Officer, you will report to:

  • functionally: audit committee
  • operationally: chief legal officer.

  • You have a Master Degree in Law or equivalent due to relevant experience
  • You have minimum of 5 to10 years expertise in compliance and risk management.  Expertise in data protection legislation and practices is a definite plus
  • Solid technical skills with:
    • good understanding of and interest for ICT infrastructure and technology.  Knowledge of data processing operations in the (elderly) care sector is a plus
    • familiarity with ICT security systems
  • You have excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record-keeping, with strong analytical abilities
  • You have good negotiation and communication skills, allowing an easy interface with both internal staff and external data protection authorities
  • You are methodical and diligent with excellent planning abilities
  • You demonstrate a high level of integrity and trust
  • You feel comfortable in working independently
  • Languages: excellent knowledge of English, Dutch and French.
