Chemicals Regulatory and Competition Lawyer - (2 to 5 years post-Bar qualification)

Steptoe seeks someone able to turn their hand to these two areas of law - supporting both important fields in our busy Brussels office.  We seek a talented, reliable and highly motivated colleague with an agile mind and creative approach to problem solving.  This is more important than prior experience.  We train all of our lawyers, whatever their background.

Our Chemicals & Life Sciences group focuses on REACH, biocides, cosmetics, food and food contact materials, nanotechnology, plant protection products, and related litigation before the General Court and Court of Justice.  Our Antitrust & Competition group focus predominantly on the behavioural aspects of competition law, damages claims and related litigation.

You should be able to express yourself clearly and concisely in English (both written and orally).  Fluency in other languages would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be a good team-player who can also work independently when required – and do both even when working at a distance, as is required under current Covid-19 restrictions. 

Qualifications and experience: 

• Master’s degree in EU law;
   
• 2-5 years of experience;
   
• Strong legal and analytical skills and the ability to deliver accurate and high quality advice service;
   
• Ability to work in a team and autonomously;
   
• Ability to set priorities and be flexible;
   
• Ability to manage multiple tasks while adhering to strict deadlines is essential. 

In addition to client projects, our lawyers are expected to actively participate in marketing and business development initiatives.

Compensation will be commensurate with the successful candidates’ experience.
