Canal+ Group is a major player in television and cinema in France and abroad. It is a leader in the publishing, aggregation and pay distribution of content, applications and premium channels in France, Africa, Europe & Asia.

Pay and free television in France

- Pay TV: GC+ publishes seven premium channels and around twenty thematic channels. In particular, the group operates the generalist channel Canal+, which offers films, sports, fiction, documentaries and entertainment contents.

Between 2021 and 2022, GC+ has secured key rights on a long-term basis around its main editorial pillars: sports (notably UEFA), series and cinema.

In addition to its channel publishing activity, GC+ is a leader in the aggregation and distribution of pay TV offers in France.

- Free television: GC+ is also a leading operator in free-to-air television in France with three national channels - C8, CNews and CStar - and an advertising agency.

International pay-TV

GC+ develops pay-TV activities internationally through its subsidiary Canal+ International, which has 14.7 million subscribers in more than 40 countries in Africa, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean. In addition, it publishes more than 65 specific channels for the international market.

In Europe, GC+ is present in Poland, which is currently the second largest customer base for the Group.  Since 2019, GC+ also owns the operator M7, which is present in Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, and since March 2022, the SPI International group, which is also present in many European countries.

The group also has had a strong presence on the African continent for almost the last 30 years. It operates in more than 25 countries, through 15 subsidiaries and more than 30 partners and distributors, and via a network of more than 7,500 sales outlets. It provides access to more than 200 channels, making it the leading pay-TV operator in French-speaking Africa and servicing more than 6.8 million subscribers by the end of December 2021.

Production and distribution of films and series

Through its subsidiary Studiocanal, GC+ is also the European leader in the production and distribution of films and TV series.  Directly distributing its films to cinemas in the three largest European markets (UK, Germany, France), Studiocanal also has one of the largest European film catalogues with almost 6,000 international titles. GC+ also holds stakes in eight European TV series production companies, a fast-growing business.

In 2021, Studiocanal achieved its best performance since 2014 and consolidated its already very solid presence in all its territories (80% of its revenues generated internationally).

In 2021, Studiocanal's catalogue continued to grow thanks to new acquisitions with substantial portfolios (notably Mars Films).

Finally, the performance of television series was also solid thanks to a strong recovery in production as well as the continued acquisition of production studios (Urban Myth Films and Lailaps).

MyCanal

In addition to its publishing, distribution and production businesses, Canal+ Group has become a key player in digital thanks to its myCanal platform and its multi-screen distribution. myCanal is now the leading TV media platform on the French market with an average of 1.7 million visitors per day and nearly 12 million per month.

Since 2020, the platform has also been deployed in the French overseas territories and in 29 countries in Europe and Africa.
