Within an integrated Lufthansa Group environment, Brussels Airlines is seeking a Legal Counsel Privacy & ICT to join its Legal & Compliance Department.

As Legal Counsel Privacy & ICT, you will be the first point of contact for all data protection and privacy issues within Brussels Airlines. You will serve as a trusted business partner to help internal stakeholders make the right decisions to comply with all relevant data protection & privacy laws.

You will be part of the Brussels Airlines Legal & Compliance Department, and will report to the Brussels Airlines Head of Legal & Compliance as well as liaise with the Brussels Airlines’ Data Protection Officer.


  • Management of all data protection processes and tools within Brussels Airlines;
  • Advice to the business stakeholders regarding data protection legal requirements and best practices, and translating those legal requirements and best practices into practical, workable solutions;
  • Support to the business stakeholders in reviewing new processing activities and performing the necessary assessments in order to comply with data protection laws;
  • Reviewing and negotiating data processing agreements and ICT agreements;
  • Together with support of the Brussels Airlines’ Data Protection Officer, responding to inquiries and investigations from data protection authorities;
  • Responding to privacy-related customer inquiries (including data subject access requests);
  • Management, together with the business stakeholders and in close liaison with the Brussels Airlines’ Data Protection Officer, of data breach incidents;
  • Providing adequate training to Brussels Airlines staff and stimulating data protection know-how and awareness, as such creating a mindset whereby privacy issues are considered at the outset of all new contracts, projects, products, processes and initiatives;
  • Providing regular and ad-hoc reporting to the Brussels Airlines’ and Lufthansa Group Data Protection Officer in accordance with the defined reporting schemes and KPI’s.


  • Master degree in Law from a Belgian University. A CIPP/E / CIPT (or other similar) certification is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a lawyer at a reputable law firm, or as in-house counsel at a leading international company, in a role substantially involving data protection and privacy matters.
  • Keen interest in data protection and privacy matters as well as the aviation industry, and tech-savvy.
  • Team-oriented, enjoying building relationships with individuals across different business functions and highly valuing a responsive, pragmatic and service-oriented way of working.
  • Thrive in a dynamic, culturally diverse and international environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying risk based decision-making.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex/technical legal concepts into a language understandable to the business stakeholders.
  • Fluent in Dutch and/or French and English (spoken and written). Knowledge of German is a plus.
