Description of the vacancy

As a result of the growth, you will join the Legal Department and you will provide legal advice & assistance to:

  • The different business units of the Group with respect to their joint venture and other M&A projects and
  • The Umicore group’s funding transactions and
  • The different business units of the Group with respect to their day-to-day business in the Western European region in order to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal obligations and to protect the assets and the reputation of the company;

Your will provide legal advice and assistance in relation to:

  • Joint venture and other M&A projects (Global geographical scope)
  • The Umicore group’s funding and financing projects (focus on Umicore NV/SA level – Global geographical scope)
  • Operational business in the Western European region

You will report to the Head of the Western European regional legal team and you will be located in the Brussels headquarters of Umicore.


Umicore is looking for a driven colleague with

  • A master’s degree in law with excellent credentials; an additional degree in a common law jurisdiction and/or in corporate finance (or equivalent experience) is a strong plus
  • At least 5 years of experience as legal counsel in a multinational company and/or as a lawyer in a reputable law firm on, among others, cross-border M&A projects
  • Excellent written and spoken in English and very good knowledge of French and/or Dutch
  • Willingness to capture the essence of and to understand the business needs and challenges of the different business units
  • Analytical, pragmatic and solution-oriented mindset whilst ensuring legal quality
  • Ability to build strong relationships of trust with colleagues in the different regional teams and with business leaders and openness to different cultures
  • Project team leader skills when required
  • Multi-tasking and strong planning and prioritizing skills
  • Organized, efficient and able to perform in a fast-paced environment
